Foundation and Higher · bearings

Bearings: three rules
that get the marks
every time.

…and the one
everyone forgets
a bearing is just —
an angle
it tells you which direction to go
measured clockwise from north
example 1 of 2

Bearing of B from A

1. “From A”: stand at A. Draw a north line.
2. Turn clockwise from north to face B.
3. Always three figures: 65° is written 065°.
✓ Bearing of B from A = 065°
example 2 of 2

Bearing of A from B

1. “From B”: now stand at B. North line.
2. Clockwise from north, all the way
round to face A.
✓ Bearing of A from B = 245°
(the way back is 065° + 180°)
three rules, every time —
“From” tells you where
put your north line there
Clockwise
starting from north
Three figures
065°, never 65°
Most lost marks: measuring at
the wrong point.
